10 Acts of Self-Care

The COVID-19 pandemic is stressful and incredibly frightening; however, stress eating and constant Twitter scrolling might not be the best coping strategies. Here are some simple acts of self-care to help put your mind at ease.

10 Simple Acts of Self-Care

  1. Get creative. Break out the crochet hook , open a coloring book, or finish that baby album you meant to wrap up months ago. Turning stress into art can give your mind a rest from anxious thoughts.
  2. Hit the yoga mat. Gyms may be closed, however many are livestreaming workouts. Find out what your local yoga studio or athletic center is doing online and digitally join others in some yoga flow.
  3. Reflect in a journal. Writing down your feelings can help you make sense of them and provide you some emotional release.
  4. Take a virtual tour. You might be stuck inside, but many museums and national parks are offering virtual tours and allowing you to take a tour of their exhibits and recreational areas.
  5. Learn something new. Whether it's learning that hot new dance on TikTok, mastering photography skills or learning a new language, use this time to learn something new.
  6. Cook or bake. In a time of isolation, cooking and baking can be a real act of self-care. Try out a new recipe or bake your famous chocolate chip cookies.
  7. Read aloud. Books can offer a great mental escape when you can't physically go out and about. Reading aloud can help pull all your energy into the task and help remove the temptation of distractions. Reading aloud to your children is one of the best activities to help stimulate language and cognitive skills.
  8. De-clutter. Rearrange the living room, organize that cluttered drawer, or finally get that hall closet cleaned out.
  9. Hang our with your pet. Relax by curling up on the couch and spend some quality time with your furry friends.
  10. Remember you're not alone. In this time of physical separation, we all must find new ways to come together. Use technology to FaceTime, text, email and stay connected to those who mean the most to you.
