10 Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Day is coming up and many of us will spend the long weekend celebrating those who served our country with BBQs, family, and activities. If you are looking for some inspiration on what to do this Memorial Day with the whole family, try these 10 activities to truly enjoy the holiday weekend:

1) Attend a Memorial Day Parade

Take time out of your day to attend your local Memorial Day parade (if you have one). This is a great chance to thank military veterans for their service and remember the ones who bravely gave their lives fighting for our freedom.

2) Host a Barbecue

Late May is the perfect time to get your grill going and serve up mouthwatering burgers, creamy potato salad, and other cookout favorites for your friends and family.

3) Visit a Museum of Military History

Pay your respects to those who have died in action by visiting a military museum, such as the Veterans Memorial Museum in Broomfield, CO.

4) Enjoy the Water

If your local lake or river is warm enough, bust out some tubes and enjoy some floating time. If the water is still too cold (which it most likely is), bring out your boat, canoe, or kayaks for some time on the water. (Don’t forget your lifejackets!)

Take advantage of the three-day weekend to drive out of town and spend a few nights camped out in the wild. Bring some hotdogs and marshmallows for a traditional camp-out by the campfire! (Be sure to follow the fire restrictions in your area!)

Get a group together of family and friends and plan a picnic in your local park. Pack your lunch and head to the park for some fun under the sun!

There’s nothing like a sunny day at the field, cheering on your favorite team while you munch on popcorn and hot dogs.

8) See an Outdoor Movie

Check if there are any outdoor movie showings near you on Memorial Day weekend. If so, take the family to see a movie under the stars. If that is not an option, set up your own outdoor movie theater and invite your friends and family over for an evening showing.

9) Find a Home DIY Project

The long weekend lends itself for getting projects done around the house. Choose a project, whether that is painting the fence, setting up a hoop house garden, or building a bench, and get to work!
