Retirement Doesn’t Have to be Boring

Truly, retirement can be whatever you want it to be. Here are some alternative retirement lifestyles to help you out.

Many people picture retirement in a negative light. It is seen as the end of an era, when after working for 50+ years you move on to a life of early dinners and dull routine. But who says it has to be this way? Truly, retirement can be whatever you want it to be. In fact, who says you have to stop working? This can be a great time to pursue a "hobby job" that you really enjoy, or keep working at your career job until you are unable to. Either way, make sure you have a plan for retirement that excites you! It's not a time to stop living, just a new season of life. We have some ideas for alternative retirement lifestyles to help you out.

1) Move Somewhere New

For a long time, Florida was the go-to retirement state. However, nowadays many seniors are moving to countries like Belize, where cost of living is lower and English is still spoken. Try moving somewhere that you have always wanted to. New experiences may even help keep your mind sharp.

2) "Workcamp"

This idea may seem strange, but many seniors are traveling around while living in RVs. They pick up odd jobs and camp wherever they are. Many of them work as park rangers, at ticket counters, or even as maintenance workers to earn some money. Have an RV and a sense of adventure? This may be the retirement plan for you.

3) Travel

Are there places in the world that you always hoped to visit before you die? Why not sell your house and extra belongings and travel? Whether it is a long term trip, or a short one, make a list of all the places you want to see and go for it.

4) Find Some Roommates

This option for retirement is a cheap, fun way to enjoy your new phase of life. Especially if you live alone, this option will keep you from getting too bored or lonely.

5) Pursue Your Lost Passion

Do you have a hobby or talent that you have always wanted to pursue? Art, fishing, woodworking, baking, or something else? Now is the time to pursue your hidden talents and find something that makes you happy. Oftentimes our lives are so busy that we forget to do the things that we really love! Who knows, you might even be able to make some money off of your hobby or talent.

6) Get Your CDL

Many seniors are getting their CDL (Commercial Drivers License) and driving as a retirement job. Many couples will hit the road, getting quality time together while also seeing the country. This is a way to make some money while traveling!
