Top Tips to Prevent COVID-19

There is currently no vaccine for the coronavirus (COVID-19), so the best way to prevent the virus is to avoid exposure. Here are some helpful tips from CDC.gov for avoiding exposure to COVID-19.

 

Know how it spreads

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.


Clean your hands often

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds - especially if you have been in a public place or around coughing/sneezing. If soap and water aren't readily available, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.


Avoid touching your face

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.


Avoid close contact

Avoid close contact with people who are sick, if possible. Put distance between yourself and others, especially if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. The recommended distance is 6 feet.


Stay home!

Experts are recommending that all people stay home as much as possible to slow the spread of the virus. Even if you aren't feeling sick, you should stay home to prevent spreading the virus to others.


Cover your coughs and sneezes

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash and wash your hands immediately after. If you are sick and need to be in public, you should wear a face mask.


Clean and disinfect

Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
